Cop granted $175,000 bail for sexual assault of teen

A police officer attached to the Tobago Division has been granted $175,000 bail with a surety or $25,000 cash alternative, after appearing before a Scarborough Magistrate on Friday.

The 24-year-old officer appeared before a Tobago Magistrate charged with four counts of sexual penetration of a 15-year-old female victim, following advice received from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC.

The accused was charged by officers of the Tobago Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) following a report made, surrounding alleged sexual abuse over an extended period of time.

The matter was postponed to July 24.
