COP Erla Harewood Christopher yesterday appealed to the public: “We call for an end to these senseless killings,” in a voice note statement to the public. The COP yesterday appealed to the public to bring information to the attention of the police to solve the murders of 13-year-old Andrea Lallan and her uncle Sylvan Lallan. COP Christopher also said: “We appeal to any member of the public having any information at all that they assist the police in their investigations to contact us.”
The TTPS issued a release updating the public with information and indicating that a 13-year-old victim had reported she was sexually assaulted by a Rio Claro couple. Police did not identify the victim as Andrea Lallan but stated that the couple included a 23-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man, who were both charged with two offenses of sexual penetration of a 13-year-old girl. Mere hours after the 13-year-old Rio Claro schoolgirl attended an identification parade to point out the perpetrators who had sexually assaulted her, she and her uncle were shot dead and her father was critically wounded in their home early yesterday.
The release stated that according to a police report, on September 15th at 3.15 p.m., the girl was asleep at the home of the man and his girlfriend when she was allegedly awakened and sexually assaulted by them. Andrea and her father reported the incident to the Rio Claro Police Station and investigations were carried out by WPC Farrier and WPC O’Connor of the Rio Claro Criminal Investigations Department (CID) under the supervision of Sgt Maharaj.
The couple yesterday appeared in a virtual hearing before Magistrate Ava Vandenberg-Bailey in the Rio Claro Magistrates’ Court. The cases were postponed to October 27.
Andrea Lalla is the second child to be murdered in the past week, following the murder of a ten-year-old boy, among a family of four last week in the country.
