Contractors Association Head Lobbies For Payment Guarantee Bonds

The Contractors Association of Trinidad and Tobago is suggesting that,  in the future, clients who contract its members pay what is described as a payment guarantee bond.

CATT President, Glen Mahabirsingh, made the proposal while being interview with Power 102 Digital on Wednesday afternoon.

The recommendation comes on the heels of news by Housing and Urban Development Minister, Camille Robinson Regis that government owes contractors one billion dollars for work carried out.

Mr Mahabirsingh said he supports the idea of having an arrangement where clients who delay on payment will benefit from payment guarantee bonds which will provide some level of coverage for contractors.

Mr Mahabirsingh said outstanding payment to contractors impacts on the survival and continuity of its members.
