Concern Raised About High ICU Occupancy Levels For Persons With Covid-19 In TT.

There is a eighty-eight percent occupancy level at the Intensive Care Unit in the parallel health care system in Trinidad and Tobago for COVID-19 patients.

The situation is being described as a cause for concern especially in light of the presence of the Delta variant locally.

Principal Medical Officer, in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Maryam Abdool Richards, speaking at the Ministry of Health virtual news briefing Wednesday said there are almost nine hundred ward level beds within the parallel health care system which manage the least ill of the patients requiring care.

Dr Richards said if a patient becomes more ill they transition to high dependency units and then to the intensive care units.
