Complaints filed following confrontation between former Former Caroni 1975 Ltd workers and UNC members

An Opposition-led protest calling for justice for the four men who died in the Paria diving tragedy yesterday turned into a brawl when ex-Caroni 1975 workers showed up, accusing the Opposition leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar of being “asleep.”

The first group of protesters, consisting of several Opposition Members of Parliament and the party’s Women’s Arm, gathered at the Divali Nagar site from 7.30 am, walking a short distance stand close to Barakarah Grounds in Endeavor where they were expected to speak.

The group held placards calling for justice for the men.

However after Rudy Indarsingh began to address the protestors, a small group dressed in black moved to the front of the group, carrying placards with messages such as “Kamla are you sleeping? Wake up!!” and “No support from UNC Women’s Arm for Caroni workers.”

One member of the group tried to interject as Indarsingh was speaking but he (Indarsingh) continued on. Another member caught the attention of St Augustine MP, Khadijah Ameen and the two began a heated exchange.

Ameen began to question the member, who was later identified as Davica Thomas, an industrial relations practitioner who has teamed up with the Caroni Reunited Group to call for lands to be disbursed to former Caroni 1975 employees.

A confrontation between the Former Caroni 1975 Ltd workers and UNC members then ensued.
During the heated exchange one supporter of the ex Caroni workers, Davica Thomas claims that St Augustine MP Kadisha Ameen bumped into her forcefully, she has since filed a police complaint on the matter.
