Activist Jamal Shabazz says that he is happy with calls by the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) for the immediate suspension of officers involved in the killing of three men in the Morvant area on June 27.
Director of the PCA, David West, has called for the suspension of those police officers involved in the June 27 killing of three young men from Morvant.
In a statement issued yesterday, West told Police Commissioner Gary Griffith that those should be suspended immediately.
In the incident which sparked several days of protest mainly in and around Port of Spain on three days last week, Joel Jacobs, Israel Moses Clinton and Noel Diamond were killed by police.
According to the statement, the PCA’s Deputy Director Michelle Solomon-Baksh has also briefed the Director of Public Prosecutions on the same matter.
The statement comes as the Griffith, today, assigned the officers involved to administrative duties, pending the outcome of the related investigations.
However Shabazz has described the calls as a narrow victory for the community and families of the slain men.
He said while this is a step in the right direction it should be used as a catalyst for something more to be done to effect positive change.
