Cocorite man denied bail for gun possession

AKILI AQUIL, aka ‘Super Muslim’ of Waterhole, Cocorite, appeared virtually before Deputy Chief Magistrate Ag, Cherril-Anne Antoine in the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 12th January, 2021, charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition.

A TTPS report states that the accused was not called upon to plea, bail was not granted and the accused was advised to apply for bail before a Judge in Chambers, as this was his second firearm offence.

Around 10 pm on Sunday 10th January, 2021 Cpl Khan, PC Clement, and WPC Noreiga, stopped the accused at Waterhole, Cocorite, where they allegedly found in his rear waistband, one Taurus pistol fitted with a magazine and nine rounds of nine millimetre ammunition.

The firearm and ammunition were seized and the suspect was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition on Tuesday 12th January, 2021.

The exercise was coordinated by Ag Snr Supt Kelvern Thompson, and coordinated by Supt Smith, Supt Henry and ASP Baird.

The matter was postponed to Tuesday 9th February, 2021
