On 14 June 2021, the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) received a call from the Captain of the Tobago ferry ‘APT James’ indicating that a fishing vessel (FV) named ‘Reward’ was seen drifting off the coast of Crown Point, Tobago with three (3) souls
onboard.
The TTCG’s TTS BRIGHTON immediately slipped berth from Scarborough, Tobago to render assistance.
Reports indicate that shortly after leaving its homeport the FV ‘Reward’ had begun experiencing engine problems and subsequently lost all power.
At the time it was spotted by the APT James, FV Reward was seen drifting into the oil tanker ‘MYRI Joy’ which
allowed them to remain alongside until TTS BRIGHTON arrived.
Upon arrival the FV Reward was taken in tow by TTS BRIGHTON and taken to the Port of Scarborough in Tobago where the men were reunited with their families at 2:55am.
The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard said it will continue to provide border security and search and rescue services in the face of the threat of Covid-19 in order to maintain the safety and security the country through the conduct of maritime security patrols within our area of operations.
