CMO says there is now community spread of the Delta Variant

The CMO says there is now community spread of the Delta Variant

Two of the newest cases of the Delta Variant in the country were not travellers and originated within the community.

T&T has now recorded 10 cases of the Delta COVID-19 Variant of Concern, with three new cases confirmed.

The Ministry of Health noted the cases are a non-national who recently travelled to Trinidad from Venezuela, an unvaccinated minor and an unvaccinated adult.

In the instances of both the unvaccinated minor and adult, the Ministry said epidemiological investigations into the source of transmission continue.

The presence of the Delta variant was confirmed via gene sequencing at the laboratory of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies.

The Ministry assured that all patients have been placed in isolation until the enhanced discharge criteria for people with COVID-19 Variants of Concern is achieved.

Contact tracing, testing and quarantining of contacts is underway.
