CMO says some institutions not reporting positive Covid cases

A number of health institutions are breaking the law by not reporting positive Covid-19 cases.
That’s according to Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram.

Speaking on Saturday during the Ministry of Health virtual press conference, Dr Parasram said medical practitioners are supposed to report positive Covid-19 cases to the office of the CMO under Regulation 13 of Public Health Ordinance.

However, he said cases were not always being reported to his office and the relevant regional health authority.

Dr Parasram said the penalty on summary conviction is a fine of $250,000 and six months imprisonment.

The CMO encouraged citizens to get vaccinated and said the ministry has used many avenues to get the population vaccinated, including having mass vaccination sites, administering a vaccine at all 109 health centres and outreach to homes and commercial centres.
