CMO says low risk to possible contacts of three Delta patients in T&T

The three imported cases of the Delta Variant of the Covid 19 virus are all unvaccinated passengers who were checked through the Piarco International Airport.

Since the information was announced by health authorities, there has been concern as to whether the surrounding passengers, flight crew or officers on the ground who interacted with the cases should be put in quarantine or at least placed under surveillance for observation.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram said the risk of spread is low however the decision would lie with the area head.

He made the comments yesterday at the Covid Media Update by the Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health Terrance Deyalsingh said that the Delta Variant is a very real concern for young ones as well.

He said while there has been trepidation by some parents in terms of having their children take the Pfizer vaccine, there has been keen interest by others.

Dr Roshan acknowledged that the decision for some parents even those already vaccinated, could be quite difficult especially as it concerns their children.

However he maintained that the side effects are few.
