Citi Bank Recovers Fund From Unlawful Lake Asphalt Wire Transfer, Confirms Leader Of Gov’t Business

The Senate has been told that Citi Bank has so far confirmed recovered US$82,863.65 of the US$247,500 that was unlawfully transferred.

Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Clarence Rambharat, provided the information in the context of being asked in the Senate on Tuesday to deliver a status report on the investigation into the theft of TT$1.7m via a wire transfer conducted between Lake Asphalt of Trinidad and Tobago (1978) Limited and a bitumen supplier.

Mr Rambharat said investigations by the TTPS Cyber Crimes Unit and the Fraud Squad are continuing into the matter with the help and cooperation of the board and management of the Lake Asphalt Trinidad and Tobago 1978 Limited.

Mr Rambharat added that the company continues to work with local and international financial institutions to recover the outstanding balance of US$165 636.33.
