CIBC FIRSTCARIBBEAN HOSTS BBQ IN FIGHT AGAINST PROSTATE CANCER

Following the Caribbean-wide virtual concert to raise awareness in the fight against cancer on October 4th, the Trinidad Operating Company for CIBC FirstCaribbean will conclude its fundraising efforts by hosting a barbecue event between October 19 and 21.

In collaboration with El Pecos Grill, the proceeds from this event will add to funds already collected in support of the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society’s fight against Prostate Cancer. The barbecue can be accessed from all El Pecos locations.

“Our Trinidad and Tobago business is focused on raising awareness for prostate cancer. CIBC FirstCaribbean supports all efforts to raise the public’s awareness of all types of cancer, stressing early detection and treatment as the best defences as the search for a permanent cure continues,” said Anthony Seeraj, Managing Director, CIBC FirstCaribbean in Trinidad. “We continue to support men’s health in Trinidad and Tobago as we live up to our motto #menslivesmatter.”

Tickets for the barbecue are available at CIBC FirstCaribbean branches in Maraval and Chaguanas. Interested persons can also call 822-5071.

This is the first time, since the inaugural Walk for the Cure eight years ago, that Trinidad has not hosted the fun event. Covid-19 health restrictions have put a halt on large gatherings. To ensure that patrons are safe, it was decided that other events will take place to provide continued support.

“Usually, the walk brings attention to the fight against prostate cancer, supporting the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society in encouraging early detection through medical screenings,” said Seeraj. “We hope that citizens continue to support the TTCS’s efforts in ensuring our men are aware and stronger for it.”

According to TTCS data in 2013, Trinidad and Tobago has one of the highest death rates from prostate cancer. This is an epidemic which can be addressed with better education and awareness.
