Christine Kangaloo Is Elected To Serve As The Seventh President Of The Republic Of Trinidad And Tobago

Christine Kangaloo has been elected to serve as the seventh President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.  

This was announced following the meeting of the Electoral College on Friday.  

The vote which was conducted via a secret ballot resulted in 42 votes for in favour of Ms Kangaloo’s appointment. 

Government had 39 votes, namely 23 from the House and 16 from the Senate, including two presiding officers, while the Opposition had 25 votes comprised of 19 from the House and six from the Senate, while the Independent Senators had nine votes. 

Ms Kangaloo, who has previously served as a government minister and mostly recently Senate President, was the nominee put forward by the Government for this position.
