Chin says cinemas now have a reason to open

Allowing food and drinks to be sold at cinemas once again is “Good news.”

That’s how Derek Chin, owner of MovieTowne felt on hearing government’s announcement on Saturday.

Cinemas were allowed to reopen two weeks ago, but it was only at a 50 per cent capacity and the selling and consumption of food and drinks was not allowed.

This led to a decision by the cinema chains to remain closed until this was allowed again.

Chin, in an interview with the Newsday, said “We can now have a reason to open, even though things will be a little difficult in terms of the response and all that, but it is obviously a start in the right direction. And we assure the Prime Minister and the population that we obviously have protocols in place and we will make sure we monitor everything.”

He said MovieTowne offers the optional temperature-checks, and mandatory wearing of a face mask or face shield, mandatory hand-washing/hand sanitisation and the implementation of physical distancing measures.

Chine told the media house that they are also working on having dividers for families who may want to have seat separations.
