Chilean seismologist joins UWI Seismic Research Centre

The UWI Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC) has welcomed a new seismologist, Dr. Rodrigo Contreras Arratia.

Dr. Contreras Arratia joins the centre at a critical time. His first assignment will be to support the current scientific effort at La Soufriere, St. Vincent.

He succeeds long serving seismologist Dr. Joan Latchman who is on short-term contract to support a seamless transition.

Dr. Contreras Arratia holds a Ph.D. in Earth and Environment from The University of Leeds and a M.Sc. in Geophysics from the Universidad de Chile.

Before pursuing doctoral studies in the United Kingdom, he worked as a Seismologist and previously as a Physics lecturer in his native Chile.

His research interests include physical modelling of seismic activity in volcanic settings and solid–fluid interactions in volcanic environments. We wish Dr. Contreras Arratia all success during his time at the UWI-SRC.
