Children’s Authority Of Trinidad And Tobago Calls For Volunteers

The Chairman of the Board of Management of the Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Carol Logie is appealing to the public to join the Authority to defend and support child rights.

In a message to celebrate World Children’s Day, Dr Logie says “far too often, the persons charged with the responsibility to love and protect children are the ones who commit heinous acts of abuse”.

She adds “World Children’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate our children and ensure they have the best possible options to thrive and positively contribute to our society”.

World Children’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate our children and ensure they have the best possible options to thrive, and positively contribute to our society.

Dr Logie said the Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago is aware that these unprecedented times have posed additional challenges and stressors for our children and their families.

World Children’s Day is also a reminder that our children have rights. I know this concept can sometimes be challenging for us as adults, since we often think that children’s rights diminish our right, especially as their parents, guardians or caregivers.

However, when we teach children about their rights and responsibilities, we empower and protect them from abuse.

We cannot ignore that there are children who have experienced unimaginable trauma.

Unfortunately, far too often, the persons charged with the responsibility to love and protect children are the ones who commit heinous acts of abuse.

In order to build a stronger society, we need like-minded persons – individuals, the family, community, organisations and policy makers – to become part of the initiative to protect children from harm.

The Authority’s mandate is to provide care, protection and rehabilitation to vulnerable children and their families, but we cannot do it alone.

Therefore, we will soon invite volunteers to bring their skills and ideas, as we seek the best interest of children and families who come to our attention.

Please email us at [email protected] and let us know how you can help.

You can also support us by becoming a foster carer.

We continue to receive requests for placements which far outweigh the number of foster parents available, especially for our teenagers.

Email us at [email protected] for more information.

We all have a role to play; whether you’re a child or adult, to engage our vulnerable children, encourage their resilience and foster their holistic development.

On behalf of my Board of Management and Staff of the Children’s Authority, HAPPY WORLD CHILDREN’S DAY TO ALL CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES.
