Chelsea loses another striker as $54 million player leaves in cut price sale

Chelsea striker Timo Werner is set to return to German club RB Leipzig two years after switching to the Premier League.

Chelsea met the Germany international’s $54m release clause in 2020 but will make a loss, with Werner set to return in a deal thought to be around $30m.

The 26-year-old scored 23 goals in 89 games in all competitions for Chelsea, but scored just 10 league goals in two seasons.

He was also a part of Chelsea’s 2021 Champions League winning squad having scored in the semi-finals of the competition.
