Charred remains found on Penal pineapple farm

A semi-decomposed, charred human body was found on a farmer’s land in Penal on Saturday.

The farmer told police he was going to a river to fish, when he noticed a flock of corbeaux.

“I thought it was probably one of my cows that dropped down and died, but only when I went closer did I realize it was someone’s body. It looked like they set the body on fire,” the farmer said.

He immediately went to the Barrackpore Police Station to notify the authorities.

A team of officers, led by Senior Supt Soodeen, visited the scene and cordoned off the area.

The remains were found near a pineapple field off Digity Trace, Penal.

Investigators believe the body may have been dumped in the remote area and then set ablaze.

They are now appealing to the public to assist in identifying the remains. Homicide officers are continuing their investigations.
