The business community is facing an increase in operating costs as they are spending more money to ensure safety and security measures are put in place in light of growing concern about crime.
President of the Chaguanas Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Baldath Maharaj, made the point during a breakfast meeting held at Signature Hall in Longdenville, Wednesday.
Mr Maharaj said this situation is a serious one as the borough is very busy in terms of commercial activity and attracts many persons who want to do trade.
The business official itemised some of the implications which can arise when the crime rate is high and how this affect businesses and the economy of Trinidad and Tobago.
