Certificate of Character Service to resume on Monday

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service says the Certificate of Character Service will resume on Monday.

It says the resumption comes after the Automated Fingerprint Identification System, which is used to assist in the tracing and identifying fingerprints, malfunctioned for a few weeks.

It says the AFIS required a new part which was immediately ordered by the TTPS when the malfunction was detected.

However due to challenges with COVID in the originating country, beyond the control of the TTPS, the delivery of the part experienced several delays.

The TTPS received the equipment this week and AFIS is now fully operational.

Officers of the fingerprint department are currently working on clearing the backlog of prints to be processed as the TTPS understands the difficulties and inconveniences caused by the interruption of the service.

Only applicants who submitted their fingerprints for analysis are advised to contact the stations in which their applications were made from May 10th, 2021 between the hours of 8:30 am and 3:30 pm.

All other applicants who were unable to make appointments online or who had their appointments cancelled are now required to make new appointments from May 11th, 2021.
