Call Made For Prison Officer And Accident Victim To Be Posthumously Awarded For His Act Of Heroism

Deputy Commissioner of Prisons, Carlos Corraspe, is suggesting accident victim and prison officer Mahendra “Brandon” Ramdial, be  posthumously bestowed a  national award for his act of heroism.

The suggestion was made during the recent funeral for Ramdial at the family’s home in Balmain Couva.

Ramdial was hit by a vehicle  and died on the southbound lane of the Solomon Hochoy Highway in Freeport on July 28.

Reports say he was returning home from work and stopped on the shoulder to assist two drivers who had been in an accident.

He got out of his car and was walking toward them when another driver swerved to avoid the debris and hit him.

He died on the spot.

Ramdial was buried at the Preysal cemetery.
