Call made at JSC for more guidance counsellors as online learning remains challenging

Secretary of the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Trinidad and Tobago, Ravi Rambarran, is appealing for special focus to be placed in the education system, on students, who before the COVID-19 pandemic, had serious challenges which have been worsened with the advent of the virus.

The recommendation was made at the fourth meeting of the Joint Select Committee on Social Services and Public Administration on Wednesday.

The JSC inquired into the effects of the hybrid learning system on student performance in government and government-assisted schools during the revised COVID-19 restrictions.

General Secretary of the Presbyterian Primary School Board, Geeta Maraj, suggested there be an increase in guidance counsellors and student support services personnel.

Secretary of the Baptist Board of Management, Michael Hills Wilson, proposed attention be placed on filling vacancies in the system.

St Joseph Cluny Board of Education official, Debra East, recommended all schools have information technology personnel.
