Call For People To Play More Active Role In Tobago’s Development

Political Analyst, Dr Vanus James, says allowing the people to play an active role in deciding the policies which govern Tobago is a key factor in determining the development of the island.

Speaking on Power 102 Digital Afternoon Drive Programme on Wednesday, Dr James said there must be better monitoring of how the executive of the Tobago House of Assembly operates.

Dr James suggested a down to up approach instead of a top to bottom style.

He suggested the setting up of advisory committees, which will be responsible for liaising with the public service on its proposals and discussions will also be held with the people to get their input before a final version is decided upon.

Dr James said there is also need for reform of the Tobago House of Assembly Autonomy Bill with the aim to create better over sight.
