Cabinet To Deliberate On Proposal For Independent Investigation Into Nationwide Blackout

A proposal will be made to cabinet for a detailed independent investigation to be conducted into Wednesday’s blackout in Trinidad.

The team probing the incident will be made up of independent experts. They will probe into matters such as power generation and distribution issues and national security.

Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Stuart Young, made this disclosure while addressing a news briefing Thursday afternoon.

Minister Young said the move was agreed upon during an emergency meeting of the National Security Council that was chaired by Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley.

Minister Young said the government is expecting a positive response from cabinet to the proposal.

The team appointed Minister Young said will also submit recommendations for cabinet’s consideration.

Minister Young said there was no development with respect to the supply of gas from Wednesday’s incident.
