Businessman charged with receiving stolen Gov’t materials to appear in court

A businessman is expected to appear before a Chaguanas Magistrate today, charged with receiving stolen items belonging to the Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT).

SUMIT CHADHA, 32, of Chaguanas, was charged with the offence on Thursday 4th August, 2022, after being arrested at his Cunupia business place on Wednesday 3rd August, 2022.

This follows an intensive police investigation into the report of a quantity of iron materials being stolen from the MOWT compound in Caroni, during the period Friday 29th July, 2022 and Tuesday 2nd August, 2022.

Based on information received, officers proceeded to a scrap iron business in the Cunupia district, where they successfully recovered the stolen materials on Wednesday 3rd August, 2022.

The accused and one other person were arrested in connection with the matter.
