We can’t depend on the schools to do everything.
This is the view of Chair of the Association of Denominational School Boards, Sharon Mangroo as she addressed calls for issue of gender relations to be taught in schools.
The recent murders of Ashanti Riley and Andrea Bharatt coupled with next week’s celebration of International Women’s Day, has once again brought the treatment of women to the fore.
Ms Mangroo, who is also CEO of the Catholic School Board, told News Power Now that she was surprised by the calls for greater focus on this in schools as in her experience, this is already done.
She stated that furthermore, the burden cannot only be on schools and the curriculum to engender change.
She noted that children are constantly learning…not only in school.
