Brian Manning, son of deceased Prime Minister Patrick Manning, will run for the seat his father once occupied- San Fernando East.
The younger Manning will submit a letter of consent on Thursday to the People’s National Movement’s (PNM) constituency executive secretariat. The letter will express his interest in being nominated as a candidate for the constituency in which his father served as MP for 44 years.
Sources say many constituents had approached Manning to vie for the seat, and his decision to run is based on his need to unite the party.
In his letter to the committee, Manning said it was an honour to have been raised and nurtured in the constituency of San Fernando East. He said, “It is here that I learned the value of courage, resilience and wisdom. I believe the time has come for me to give back.”
Manning’s background spans a wide range of fields including finance and economics, media and data science.
The constituency is one of 25 that needed to submit nominees to the leadership committee of the PNM. They have until the end of the month, March 30, to submit their list.
