Brazil recorded a daily moving average of 420 deaths per COVID-19 this Sunday, 1st. The moving average records the oscillations of the last seven days and eliminates distortions between a high number of midweek and a low number of weekend.

According to data from the press media consortium, formed by Estadao, G1, Or Balloon, Extra, leaf e Twitter, the country had 10,084 new cases and 202 new deaths in the last 24 hours. In total, 5,544,815 people are infected and 160,104 have died from the new coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic. The balance of Ministry of Health, in turn, indicates that there are 4,980,942 Brazilians recovered and another 404,689 being monitored.

In number of contaminated, Brazil is the third country most affected by the pandemic, according to a count by Johns Hopkins University. It is behind the United States and India, which occupy the first and second positions, respectively. However, in relation to the total number of deaths, the country is in second place.
The balance of deaths and cases is the result of a partnership between the six media that began to work, since June 8th, in a collaborative way to gather the necessary information in the 26 states and the Federal District. In an unprecedented way, the initiative was a response to the Bolsonaro government’s decision to restrict access to data on the pandemic and remained even after the maintenance of government records.
According to the Ministry of Health, 10,100 new cases of COVID-19 and 190 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours. As a result, the total number of people infected by the disease is 5,545,705 and 160,074 killed in the country. The numbers differ from those compiled by the press media consortium mainly because of the time of data collection.
