As of midnight on Sunday, T&T’s borders are closed until further notice.
Minister of National Security Stuart Young made the announcement during a press conference on Saturday morning. He added that the country will no longer be accepting international flights or international travel, “whether you’re a national or not.”
Young said that the rule applies to even Government officials- Cabinet took a decision to cancel all non-essential flights for Ministers.
This rule applies to airports and seaports.
Young said, however, that cargo ships -including international cargo vessels – will continue to be allowed including those from other CARICOM islands, that are bringing produce into the country.
He said the crew onboard these ships will not allowed to disembark as protocols and procedures are in place when the ships dock.
International cargo flights and air-freight are also still allowed to enter the country.
Young confirmed that domestic flights and inter-island travel are still ongoing.
