Bodycams for police a neccesity says former NSOC director

The former Director of National Security Operations Centre is calling for bodycams to be worn by police officers at all times while out on the field.

Garvin Heerah made the call while speaking with Power 102 FM Digital’s Power Breakfast Show this morning.

His call comes as the police continue to be condemned for the use of teargas at a protest at the Queens Park Savannah on Sunday.

Innocent motorists were said to be affected when the police fired tear gas at the protesters near to Knowlesley Building around the Savannah.

Police have claimed that a group of the protesters became unruly when asked to disperse.

However, eye witnesses dispute the police’s claims and also accuse the officers of acting recklessly by using the teargas in manner which endangered innocent civilians and passing motorists.

Mr Heerah said there is no reason to delay the implementation of the technology which will ultimately benefit everyone.
