Beyoncé opens 2022 Oscars with daughter Blue Ivy

The Oscar-nominated singer opened the show with a dramatic performance of King Richard‘s “Be Alive” that was recorded in Compton, California, where Serena and Venus Williams honed their tennis skills.

Surrounded by a group of background singers, musicians, dancers, and her daughter Blue Ivy Carter, all dressed in tennis ball green, Beyoncé was introduced from the Oscar stage by the Williams sisters.

She gave a shout-out to Compton during her performance.

Beyoncé has performed at the Oscars three previous times:

In 2005, she sang various best-original-song nominees live, including “Learn to Be Lonely” from The Phantom of the Opera.
