Beetham resident call for empathy rather than arrests

As police investigations continue into yesterday’s protest action on the Beetham highway, one resident is calling on the authorities to refrain from using the criminal justice system to resolve the matter.

Acting Commissioner of Police, McDonald Jacob revealed yesterday to Power 102 Digital that CCTV footage was being reviewed and the hunt is now on to determine the parties responsible for the act.

However, Community spokesperson, Kareem Marcelle suggested to News Power Now that, while the Commissioner has his job to do, using the criminal justice system as a means of addressing the matter sent the wrong message.

Marcelle was asked if the community intended to find other means of addressing issues as the current means often left the public agitated with the residents and painted the community as a nuisance.

In response, he reiterated that he understood the plight of citizens who were affected by the protests and hoped that the empathy will be reciprocated.
