Barrackpore man held with illegal firearm and ammo

A 39-year-old man is expected to be charged for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition after being held by officers of the Barrackpore Police Station yesterday morning.
The suspect was detained following a foot pursuit in which he attempted to evade officers who were conducting enquires into a spate of robberies in the district.

Acting on information, the officers arrived at the Croix Road, Lengua Village home of the suspect at 6:00 am on Friday 5th June, 2020. Upon spotting the officers, the man jumped through a window and began fleeing from the officers.

A chase ensued and he was quickly apprehended. The officers then searched the man during which they discovered a .38 revolver and six rounds of .38 ammunition.

He was immediately arrested and taken into police custody where he is expected to be charged by lead investigator, PC Khan.

Investigations into this matter are ongoing.
