Ban On Scrap Iron Exportation In Place Until February 2023

The Prohibition Order to ban the exportation of old scrap metal is now in effect and will last for six months until February 23rd next year.

In early July cabinet appointed a sub committee made up of three –government ministers as well as the Attorney General.

The committee was asked to do a review of the industry and report urgently to the cabinet.

A series of consultations were then held with various stakeholders and enterprises across the country.

Attorney General, Reginald Armour, told a news briefing today he advised the cabinet which met on August 11th and took certain decisions.

Mr Armour provided further details on what the Prohibition Order allows.

The AG said he took another proposal to the cabinet which was accepted that there be a review of the current laws governing the scrap iron industry in the next three months.
