Bail granted to soldier for fatal accident involving Kiss delivery driver

A soldier was granted own bail in the sum of $150,000 when he appeared virtually before a Master of the High Court yesterday, charged with Causing Death by Dangerous Driving, against truck driver Neil Ballai, which occurred on March 28th, 2024.

Jalani Mapp was also charged with Failing to Stop after a Road Traffic Accident, Dangerous Driving, Failure to Render Assistance and Driving Without a Certificate of Insurance, when he appeared before Master Margaret Sookraj-Goswami on Tuesday 13th August, 2024.

He was not called upon to plead and is to report to a police station one day in the first week of every month between 6 am and 6 pm.

Ballai, 55, of Valsayn was driving a Kiss company truck along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway on March 28th, 2024, when he was rear ended by a black Hyundai Ioniq which sped off.

The victim died at the scene as a result of the accident, while another passenger in the truck sustained injuries in the incident and had to be hospitalised.

A male suspect was arrested shortly after in connection with the incident.
The charges were laid against Mapp by WPC Cobbler.
