Ayanna Webster Roy responds to what she says is the false narrative of Opposition Senator David Nakhid on the Jones Report

Minister with Responsibility for Child and Gender Affairs Ayana Webster Roy is responding to what she says is the false narrative issued by Opposition Senator David Nakhid on the Government’s response to the Jones Report.

She says the recommendations of the Judith Jones Report are being implemented by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

She stated to ensure that children are safeguarded and they combat child abuse in child facilities, Cabinet has agreed to the appointment of an Inter-Agency Task Force to devise a work plan to implement the recommendations.

The Minister noted the Task Force held its first meeting on May 4, 2022 and has commenced the development of the work plan for submission by June 2022.

Webster Roy also said the Task Force was not allocated $136 million, rather one hundred and twenty-six million, eighty-one thousand, seven hundred and fifteen dollars ($126,081,715.00) was approved and allocated to various Government Ministries and agencies with the responsibility to protect and safeguard the nation’s children and youth, a major part of it in fiscal 2022, to implement projects relevant to the recommendations contained in the Report.

She denied that the Government is trying to divert attention from the Judith Jones report as it was commissioned by this administration.
