Australian woman hospitalized after developing a rare infection from a tummy tuck

A 29-year-old woman from Australia has been hospitalized after developing a rare infection after a tummy tuck.

Brennan Mcintosh went through an abdominoplasty, a cosmetic procedure, after losing 90 pounds. The weight loss left her with extra and the tummy tuck procedure was only to remove the excessive skin.

However, although the operation went well initially, Mcintosh felt sick eight days after.

Reports added that medical experts said she developed necrotizing fasciitis, an unusual bacterial infection that eats at the flesh.

The condition affects the tissue underneath the skin, and organs as well as encircling muscles.

The 29-year-old has been placed in a coma and her condition is very rare as just one case in the world has been connected to a tummy tuck.

McIntosh is being treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
