August sees rise in Covid deaths

Five more people have died from COVID-19, taking the August death toll to 88.

However, deaths accelerated in the last half of the month, as there were 62 deaths between August 17-31, compared to 24 from August 1-16.

Data from the Ministry of Health yesterday showed that the first 16 days averaged 1.5 deaths per day but there were 4.2 deaths daily in the second period.

This is despite the fact that there was no significant difference in the number of daily reported cases among the total 7,636 reported for the month.

Based on the ministry’s COVID-19 dashboard for yesterday, 4,144 people have succumbed to COVID-19 and its related complications since the start of the pandemic in March 2020
