Are WASA workers on the breadline? Minister says no

Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales says the 2021 Budgetary estimates for the Water and Sewerage Authority does not suggest an intention on the part of the Government to reduce staff there.

He faced questions from the Opposition during the Standing Finance Committee’s examination of the budgetary allocation to the Ministry of Public Utilities.

The Minister revealed that NIS is an estimate and if it needs to be revised upward the Ministry will return to the Parliament.

He said the Government is looking at WASA’s structure to make it more efficient.

The Minister reminded that during the Budget Debate in the House of Representatives he said a Cabinet Committee is in place which he chairs that is looking at the operations of WASA.
