Apple reveals ‘digital legacy feature’ for family to access icloud data when you die

Earlier this month, Apple released iOS 15.2, a major iPhone upgrade that contains a new feature called Digital Legacy. )You will be able to select certain people who will be allowed to access your account after you pass away.)

Prior to the update, it has been extremely difficult for loved ones to gain access to an Apple account of a deceased family member or friend. Previously, in the United States, surviving family and friends had to acquire a court order to gain access to a deceased loved one’s digital files if they didn’t have the phone’s passcode or iCloud details.

Now with the new update, it can be quite useful for loved ones who need access to certain data.

After the original user dies, the chosen contacts can access data stored in iCloud, such as images and documents, if they have a special access key and a copy of the death certificate.

The people most likely to have a copy of the death certificate would be accessed by Digital Legacy users.
