Anti-crime exercise nets gun, ammo and drugs

A series of sustained and coordinated search exercises across the Port of Spain Division yesterday, resulted in the arrest of several suspects and the seizure of a firearm and quantities of ammunition and marijuana.

The heightened police presence in the Capital City was evident and welcomed by citizens, as Task Force officers carried out intelligence-led exercises aimed at taking illegal guns and drugs off the streets.
The early morning exercises were conducted between 4 am and 10 am, on Wednesday 25th January, 2023, during which searches were executed in the Laventille and Belmont districts.

The searches resulted in one revolver being discovered hidden at a park along Norfolk Street, Belmont.
The same party of officers then proceeded to the Laventille district, where they found a black plastic bag containing 90 rounds of 7.62 ammunition, 13 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, a pistol magazine and 1.1 kilogrammes of marijuana.

Four persons were also arrested during the exercise in connection with various offences.
Meanwhile, in the Western Division, Task Force officers conducted an Operation Overload exercise between 5 pm and 7 pm, yesterday, during which they stopped a searched a male suspect.

The search resulted in one Taurus pistol loaded with a magazine containing five rounds of ammunition being found in his possession.

The Cocorite man was arrested in connection with the find.
Investigations are ongoing into all the above matters.
