Anti-crime exercise in Malick: Ammo and camouflage jacket found

Police found 17 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition, seven rounds of 40 calibres and three rounds of .38 ammunition and one camouflage jacket and pants hidden in an empty lot of land in Malick.

According to reports, an anti-crime exercise was conducted throughout the North Eastern division, between the hours of 10 pm on Friday to 2 am on Saturday.

It was spearheaded by Snr Supt Maharaj, Ag/Supt Ramjohn, ASP Pariman, coordinated by Insp Bharath, Ag/Sgt Martin and Ag/Sgt Belilam, supervised by Ag/Cpl Constantine and Ag/Cpl Ramkissoon and included members of the NEDTF, NED CID Crime Patrol Unit and the NED Intelligence Unit. Several crime hotspot areas were targeted including Sunshine Avenue, Bagatelle Road and 6th and 7th Avenue Malick.

A comprehensive search was conducted on an empty lot of land in the 6th Avenue area and the items were found hidden in a bushy area which is frequented by known criminals.

During this exercise Pc Andrews of the NEDTF had cause to search a 31-year-old man of Brathwaite Lane, El Socorro who was standing along 2nd Street, San Juan and found in his possession a shoulder bag containing 19 small packets of cocaine weighing 15 grams, he was arrested and charged for the offence of possession of Cocaine for trafficking.
