The Drainage Division is assuring the nation under the annual desilting programme 396 projects have been identified for this fiscal year, 218 projects have been completed and a further 178 projects are projected to be completed with additional funding being allocated.
In the parliament this afternoon, Minister of Works and Transport, Rohan Sinanan, was asked by the Opposition in light of the current weather system whether all watercourses in flood prone areas have been cleaned and desilted to mitigate flooding.
Minister Sinanan said the ministry is on track with the programme and it will be completed within the financial year.
