Ameen criticizes government’s $3500 mosquito fine on citizens

Opposition MP, Khadijah Ameen, is criticizing government for what she believes is a reactive approach to dealing with the dengue-spreading aedes aegypti mosquito.

At a media conference this morning, Khadijah Ameen addressed the Health Minister’s announcement that citizens could be fined $3,500 if their premises are breeding sites for mosquitoes.

However, the St Augustine MP stated that the Insect Vector Control Division has been under-resourced and believes government has not been proactive.

She believes the Health Minister cannot warn about over-spraying for mosquitoes, insisting that government has instead been under-spraying.
