The Amalgamated Workers Union led by its President General Michael Prentice, Executive and General Council day they will assemble outside the Central Market on Monday 15th June 2020 at 8:00 am to stage a protest.
The union issued a media release this morning highlighting concerns some concerns raised by workers and the current condition of the market.
The key issue which the union is seeking to address is the interference by the Council in the maintenance and cleaning of the Market, which pose a health hazard to the Workers and the public, since the bins are not being emptied on their scheduled time.
Immediately following this the union said members would proceed to Transport and Cleansing Division at Christopher Samuel Drive, Mucurapo Road at 9:00 am on Monday 15th June 2020.
Amalgamated Workers Union said suck action has become necessary in light of recent decisions taken by the Port of Spain City Council, which, in the view of the union, could very well lead to privatization of the division.
The union said they will not be party to any such move and will be letting the media and the country know the full detail of this situation.
