AG Details Benefits Of Virtual Privy Council Hearings For State Attorneys

The government relies upon a number of factors in determining whether attorneys representing the state should attend court matters at the Privy Council in person as oppose to attending to those matters virtually.

These factors include the complexity and novelty of matters before the judicial committee of the Privy Council, the urgency of the matters, pre-trial and trial arrangements involved, the implications that the matter or matters will have on the public interest.

Every matter is approached on a case by case basis and there are arguments for and against virtual appeals.

Attorney General, Reginald Armour, cited the benefits of virtual hearings and what issues can affect such an arrangement during the question and answer period in the Senate on Tuesday.
