Imam Yasin Abu Bakr has congratulated the Government for its handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a letter made public, Abu Bakr said that he applauds, “the Honourable Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Christopher Rowley and his Government on the indisputable manner in which they have handled this Covid-19 pandemic.”
“Because I am a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago, and a Trini to the marrow of the bone, I feel compelled to respond to some comments made by members of the Opposition and others.”
One such comment is persons calling for the removal of Minister of National Security Stuart Young for his involvement in what is now known as “fuelgate”.
“It is in poor taste,” Abu Bakr said, “that Trinidad and Tobago as a sovereign nation, that we will choose to hang our linens in the open in the full view of the entire world. This of course as a result from a visit to this country by our closest neighbour whom we have lived side by side for hundreds of years without any conflict.”
He also commented on the “deafening silence” from members of other religions including Islam.
“Patriotism in a sovereign nation especially in a time of crisis, like that which we are currently in, requires that we all pull together for the greater good.”
