A fresh election is the only way forward for the THA

PNM Tobago Council political leader Tracy Davidson-Celestine has reiterated that the best way to resolve the current deadlock within the Tobago House of Assembly is to hold fresh elections.

After failing to elect a presiding officer after three attempts, Davidson-Celestine said returning to the polls is the best democratic option at this time.

In an interview with the Newsday, she said “The intent of the THA election is for the people to determine who they wish to govern them for the next four years. All we are saying is let the people decide.”

The PNM and the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) each won six electoral districts in the January 25 THA election and the PDP has since received legal counsel with a view to ending the stalemate

Davidson-Celestine, added that “Amendments will have to be made to allow the process to move forward and we await further guidance on this matter.”
