7 nabbed following robbery at Chinese Supermarket

Seven men are currently detained by police in connection with a report of robbery with violence which occurred Monday morning.

The group, aged 22 to 34, were arrested by officers of the San Juan Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the North-Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF), and ERP units, following preliminary investigations into a report of robbery with violence against three Chinese proprietors.

The group is expected to be placed on identification parades as investigators believe the men may be responsible for recent robberies within the San Juan area.

According to the Chinese nationals, at 3 am on Monday 3rd May, 2021, they were awoken by an alarm from their El Socorro supermarket. When the proprietors further investigated, they reportedly saw that several persons had gained entry to the establishment. Soon after, the Chinese nationals were accosted by a group of men who tased them and dealt them several blows about the body.

The group of men later took an undisclosed amount of cash before escaping.
A report was later made to police and an all-point bulletin was issued for the men. Officers of the San Juan CID, ERP, and NEDTF immediately responded.

Police subsequently nabbed seven men of interest who are assisting with investigations into several reports of robberies. They live at Beetham Gardens, El Socorro, and Petit Bourg.
PC George, of the San Juan CID, is leading enquiries into this case.
